Mayor of Montauk is a mobile app for discovering Montauk places, music, check-ins, friends, community charts, and aggregate place activity. This policy explains what the app collects, how that information is used, and the choices available to you.
Information We Collect
- Account information. If you sign in, we may receive your Apple Sign In identifier and, if Apple provides them, your name and email address. We also store your username, normalized username, app profile settings, and Firebase authentication identifier.
- Location information. With your permission, the app uses precise location to confirm nearby check-ins and support aggregate public-place heatmaps. If you opt in to raw location history and allow background location access, the app may save precise background location samples with your username, time, accuracy metadata, and nearest-place information.
- Contacts. If you grant contacts access, the app reads contact names, email addresses, and phone numbers to help find friends already using the app and suggest invites. The backend stores hashed contact identifiers for matching and does not store raw contact email addresses or phone numbers in the contact records.
- App activity and content. We may store check-ins, reviews, saved music events, event reminders, meme chart submissions, private pins, friend relationships, and related timestamps or identifiers needed to provide those features.
- Notifications. If you allow notifications, the app may store push notification tokens and send reminders for saved music events plus occasional Montauk news, promotions, and product updates.
How We Use Information
We use information to run the app, personalize your experience, manage sign-in, confirm check-ins, show saved events, match friends, send notifications you allow, maintain moderation and admin tools, improve place data, and generate aggregate public-place activity signals.
Location Retention and Visibility
Raw precise location samples are private to your account and moderators. They are intended to expire after 7 days. Public heatmap or popularity features use aggregated place-level rollups, not public raw coordinates.
Sharing
We do not sell personal information. We use service providers such as Apple services for sign-in and maps, Firebase/Google Cloud for authentication, database, functions, and messaging, and Apple push notification services for notifications. We may disclose information if required by law, to protect rights and safety, or to operate and secure the app.
Your Choices
- You can decline or revoke location, contacts, and notification permissions in iOS Settings.
- You can choose whether to enable raw location history in the app.
- You can stop using Sign in with Apple or request account/data deletion through app controls when available or by contacting us.
Data Security
We use Firebase security rules, authenticated access, and service-side controls to limit access to private account data. No method of storage or transmission is perfect, but we work to protect the information needed to operate Mayor of Montauk.
Children
Mayor of Montauk is not intended for children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us so we can review and delete it where appropriate.
Changes
We may update this policy as the app changes. When we do, we will update the effective date above.
